Sharp rise in Ukrainian immigration to Israel as Jews flee unrest

Jewish new immigrants from Ukraine registered higher at Israel’s Ministry of Immigrant Absorption in the 1st 3 months of the year, with an increase of 43% over the same period last year.

 

 

Responding to escalating unrest in their country, hundreds of Jews have been fleeing Ukraine since the start of year and heading to Israel.

Preliminary figures indicate that the pace picked up markedly in recent weeks with more than 250 new immigrants from Ukraine registered at the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption since the beginning of April.

The lower house of the Russian Parliament, or Duma, passed the measure Friday on its first reading, the Voice of Russia reported Monday, making it illegal to deny the verdict of the Nuremberg Tribunal and punishing the “rehabilitation of Nazism.”

Those found guilty of the crime could be fined up to $8,300 or imprisoned up to three years. Public officials or media personalities would be fined nearly double or face up to five years in prison. Continue Reading »

Phone app: Take me to the nearest Mikvah

The Israeli GPS app Waze, now provides mikvah (ritual bath) locations. The service also contains a security ‘glitch’ that reveals Orthodox Jews who use a ‘non-Kosher’ smartphone, when they shouldn’t.

The popular navigation application Waze can now direct you to the nearest mikvah – a Jewish ritual bath, the Israeli daily Maariv reported Monday.

Global hackers of Anonymous managed to only temporarily crash a very few Israeli websites whereas Israeli hackers successfully  penetrated the Anonymous website.

The international hacker group Anonymous warned that Israel would be under a constant and determined cyber-attack on Monday, but by midday, Israeli cyber-security experts said the assault had been “unsophisticated” and largely unsuccessful.

Palestinian infighting in south Lebanon leaves eight killed

 

Violent fighting broke out between members from the Brigades of Return, a Palestinian group linked to Fatah leaving 8 dead and at least 10 people wounded.

SIDON – At least eight people were killed in fighting on Monday between Palestinian factions in a refugee camp near Lebanon’s southern city of Sidon, Lebanese and Palestinian medical sources said.

The pro-Palestinian “hacktivist’ collective broke into the Education Ministry’s website, as well as the websites of the Israel Postal Service and the Central Bureau of Statistics, Ynet reported.

Anonymous struck first in November 2012 after Israel’s Operation Pillar of Defense assault on Gaza, and again on April 7, 2013.

The explosive was set off as an IDF jeep passed by, sending three soldiers to the hospital to be examined for shock from the blast.

Upon winning, Atamna-Ismaeel said it was “the most exciting moment in her life,” and said she plans on using the prize money to open an Arab-Jewish cooking school.

Terror attack thwarted near Maaleh Adumim, when thrown molotov cocktail fails to cause serious damage.

Palestinian Arab youth hurled several firebombs at a night club in Jerusalem’s French Hill neighborhood on Saturday night. One of the flaming projectiles hit just outside the door of the establishment, but failed to cause any injuries.

Late last week, a Jewish motorist was attacked with stones and bricks in the same neighborhood. Police and local residents have noted an increase in Arab attacks of late.
