BREAKING: Trump signs ‘waiver’ – US Embassy to remain in Tel Aviv

 

US President Donald Trump just signed a presidential waiver to delay relocating the US Embassy that is currently in Tel Aviv, Israel to Jerusalem.
– White House said the signed waiver avoids complicating President Trump’s efforts to restart long-stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.

President Donald Trump has temporarily waived a law requiring the US to move its embassy in Israel to JerusalemTrump’s move to renew the waiver for six months keeps the US embassy in Tel Aviv for now. Trump has said he’s reviewing whether to fulfill his campaign promise to move it to Jerusalem.

Report: Study shows Jerusalem’s Arab population growth less than Jewish

 

A Jerusalem Institute for Israel Studies report that Jerusalem’s population growth per capita has remained steady since 1967, and that due to education, modernization ushering women’s advancements, the argument that Jerusalem will have a non-Jewish majority in the future is no longer accurate.

The population in Jerusalem has been steadily increasing since 1967 while the increase in the city’s Arab population is on a steady decline, according to new research.

“The Jewish populace is, of course, the majority, and although that majority is diminishing, the rate in which it is doing so is slowing down,” said Yair Assaf-Shapira, a researcher in the Jerusalem Institute for Israel Studies. Continue Reading »

Jerusalem cable car to the Western Wall receives gov’t approval

 

The cost of Jerusalem’s express cable car is expected to be $55 million, most of which will come from the Ministry of Tourism, and the 40 cars will carry 3,000 passengers an hour across 1.4 km beginning in 2021.

Knesset and U.S. Congress to jointly celebrate 50 years of Jerusalem’s reunification

 

Being hosted by Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, the reunification of Jerusalem celebration was organized by Israel’s Ambassador to the U.S. Ron Dermer, with all the Members of Knesset, Congress, Senate invited.

The Knesset and the Congress will jointly mark 50 years since the reunification of Jerusalem in an event scheduled to be broadcast on live video link between the two legislatures next Tuesday. The move could be viewed as tacit recognition by the White House of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and spark controversy.

A plan to separate some of east Jerusalem’s neighborhoods was presented to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu several months ago in a work meeting between the premier and MK Dr. Anat Berko (Likud).

Berko accompanied her plan with a detailed map, aerial photographs and groundwork. The map in question was a map of the municipal areas of Jerusalem. At the center of it was marked a new border that MK Berko had drawn, whose purpose was to remove Israel’s municipal responsibility over a long list of Palestinian neighborhoods in east Jerusalem. US Ambassador David Friedman’s first stop on the job in Israel was the Western Wall, where a simple prayer at the Biblical site, turned into a lager diplomatic statement.

Jordanian terrorist shot dead Saturday after knife-attack on Policemen in Jerusalem’s Old City

 

Israel policeman who was stabbed, responded, shot & killed 57 yr-old Jordanian terrorist near the Lions’ Gate in Jerusalem’s Old City, before being taken to Shaare Tzedek hospital in moderate condition. Another policeman was lightly injured and treated on site.

A 37-year-old police officer was moderately injured by a terrorist stabbing in the area of the Lions’ Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem. The police said that the terrorist was shot and later pronounced dead. Marc Zell, the co-chair of Republicans Overseas in Israel, on Wednesday said there was no truth to the reports that President Donald Trump had decided that the United States Embassy in Israel would remain in Tel Aviv.

A source told i24NEWS that some Israeli officials have expressed reservations over the choice of Masada for an address by a US President, but added that the site — an ancient fortress situated atop a 400 meter (1,300 foot) high rock cliff — seems in line with Trump’s grandiose style. Israel’s Housing Minister pushes massive building plans for Jerusalem

 

Israel is advancing proposals for 25,000 housing units in the capital, including large construction projects in eastern Jerusalem, Pisgat Zeev and Gilo.

Israel is planning a series of housing projects in the capital, amounting to one of the largest waves of construction in Jerusalem in recent years.

Ahead of President Trump’s expected visit to Israel in May, the Housing and Construction Ministry has proposed the construction of some 25,000 new housing units in Jerusalem, including more than 15,000 in neighborhoods liberated in the 1967 Six Day War.

According to the proposed plan, 10,000 new units would be built in the capital’s western neighborhoods, along with 15,000 in neighbohoods built after 1967, including Pisgat Zeev and Gilo. Continue Reading »
