India’s PM Modi to make historic 3-day trip to Israel, bolstering ties & economic cooperation

Stepping away from ‘diplomatic protocol’, the Indian leader will not travel to Ramallah to engage the Palestinians, instead will spend his 3 days with PM Netanyahu to advance India’s “wide ranging partnership with Israel, from agriculture cooperation to homeland security.”

By Reuters and Israel Hayom Staff

Narendra Modi is scheduled to make the first visit to Israel by an Indian prime minister later this week, in a public embrace of a country that he has long admired for its military and technical expertise but which his predecessors kept at arm’s length.

India has traditionally trodden a careful diplomatic line in the region, analysts say, wary of upsetting Arab states and Iran — upon whom it relies for its vast imports of oil — and its large Muslim minority. Continue Reading »

UNESCO: Hebron Muslim history overly focused, at exclusion of Judeo-Christian heritage

This is the third time the International Council on Monuments and Sites has rejected Palestinian Authority’s proposal for a strictly Muslim inscription on a “World Heritage in Danger” list, based on the request’s  exclusion of any Judeo-Christian heritage.

By TOVAH LAZAROFF

UNESCO experts warned the Palestinian Authority that it has overly focused on Hebron’s Muslim history, at the exclusion of the Judeo-Christian heritage, in its request that the West Bank’s city’s “Old Town” be inscribed on the “World Heritage in Danger” list.

The failure to make a full case for inscription as a heritage site combined with Israel’s decision to ban experts from visiting the city make it difficult to conclude if an emergency situation exists, the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) said in an 11-page report it submitted over the weekend. Hamas threatens Israel after barring visits to jailed terrorists until MIA returned to families

The Gaza run terrorist organization said Israel’s decision to end visitation rights constitutes a ‘declaration of war’ on prisoners, saying, “Hamas will not allow this punishment. There will be a price to pay.”

By David Rosenberg

Israel is no longer allowing relatives to visit jailed Hamas terrorists, the Gaza-based terror organization claimed on Thursday.

Abd El-Rahman Shadid, who heads up Hamas’ bureau of prisoner affairs, declared in a written statement to Arab journalists that Israel had revoked the visitation rights of jailed terrorists affiliated with the Hamas terror group.

According to Shadid, the decision to halt visits to jailed Hamas terrorists is tied to Israeli efforts to bring about the return of two murdered IDF soldiers – Oron Shaul and Hadar Goldin – whose bodies have been held by Hamas since 2014. Continue Reading »
