Legality of proposed bill to relocate terrorists’ families to Gaza being vetted by AG

 

 

Israel’s PM Netanyahu sent the Attorney General a request that his office conduct a legal review, including procedures needed to undertake, so that Palestinian terrorists’ families can be exiled to Gaza.

A bill proposing to deport families of Palestinians who carried out terror attacks to the Gaza Strip took another step forward on Wednesday after being submitted to the Knesset by Transport Minister Yisrael Katz of the Likud, the Times of Israel reports.

Professor Mordechai Kremnitzer, Attorney Eli Becker and Dr. Amir Fuchs of the Israel Democracy Institute (IDI) published a statement calling for the ministers to oppose the bill, claiming it is unnecessary as the current law already prohibits unreasonable levels of noise.

A Knesset loby for the use of medical cannabis has been established with Likud MK Sharren Haskel at its head, it was announced on Thursday. “It has become accepted that medical cannabis has significant health benefits and an important place in the development of the world of medicine,” Haskel said, “but there are many impediments to its use. Israel’s MK Lieberman initiates offensive to remove Haneen Zoabi from Knesset

Knesset member seeks to label foreign-funded anti-Israel NGOs

 

Likud MK Yoav Kisch introduces a bill that seeks to restrict nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) funded by foreign gov’ts that “represent foreign political interests,” as their covertly given funds undermine Jerusalem and promote anti-Israel propaganda.

Likud MK Yoav Kisch on Sunday introduced a legislation proposal seeking to label nongovernmental organizations operating in Israel while receiving the majority of their funding from foreign governments as “plants” or “agents” of the governments funding them.

Knesset proposes bill funding Pollard’s expenses once released

 

Knesset House Committee chairman David Bitan, who proposed the bill said, “We have a moral obligation to Pollard… (since) Israel failed to bring about his release.”

The government would pay for Jonathan Pollard to have “reasonable living conditions” for the rest of his life following his expected release from a prison in North Carolina November 20, according to a bill proposed in the Knesset on Tuesday.

Legislation to impose harsher sentences on stone-throwers passed the final hurdle on Monday night in the Knesset after it passed the second and third readings, making it into law.

The bill, proposed by former justice minister Tzipi Livni and then promoted in this term by her successor Ayelet Shaked, passed with 69 in favor, including Zionist Union MKs, and 17 against.

Israel’s Government Approves Legislation Confiscating Security Detainees’ Cellphones

The Ministerial Committee for Legislation approved on Sunday a proposal to prevent the use of cellular devices by prisoners and security detainees involved in acts of terror, presented by Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked.

Coincidentally, the bill was presented after – earlier in the day – Palestinian terrorist Abdullah Barghouti conducted an interview with a Palestinian radio station from prison using his mobile phone.

Currently the legal authority to deny detainees use of cellular devices remains vague, with the security services forced to petition the High Court of Justice to prevent prisoners making using cell phones. Continue Reading »

Israel’s Government Approves Legislation Toughening Punishment for Rock Throwers

This bill offers sentence of 10 years even if thrower’s ‘intent’ was not proven, and sentences for throwing rocks at security personnel, police or police vehicles will be even heavier.

The Ministerial Committee for Legislation approved on Sunday the first bill submitted by Minister Ayelet Shaked, stiffening the punishments and penalties meted out to individuals convicted of rock throwing.

The Committee decided to bring the “continuity principle” to bear on the bill, which was originally submitted by former Justice Minister Tzipi Livni in the previous government, but passed only in the first reading. The continuity principle means that the bill will not have to be brought to a first reading again, and will advance immediately to the second and third readings. Continue Reading »
