Netanyahu’s New Coalition Receives Knesset Approval

Knesset plenum approves Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s newest coalition by a vote of 61 to 59 in Israel’s 34th government.

The Knesset on Thursday night approved Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s new coalition by a narrow vote of 61 to 59.

“I determine the government has won the confidence of the Knesset. Congratulations,” Knesset speaker Yuli Edelstein said following the vote.

As expected, the vote was preceded by a heated debate in the Knesset between coalition and opposition.

As Netanyahu addressed the Knesset to present his new government, he faced a raucous, disrespectful plenum. Three Arab MKs were ejected from the plenum, one after the other, as Netanyahu began speaking, due to loud and incessant interruptions.

New Law in Israel: No More Cutting Off Water Over Unpaid Bills

Israel Water Authority accepted the Knesset’s Economics Committee position, after a year of deliberation. The changes will begin on March 31.

The Knesset’s Economics Committee voted Thursday to forbid water corporations from cutting off water supply to clients over debts. The changes will go into effect on March 31.

The Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee debated Sunday a groundbreaking proposal to offset the money Israel collects for the Palestinian Authority (PA) by funneling money given to terrorists back into the State.

MK Orit Struk (Jewish Home), one of the initiators of the bill, noted that funds given to the PA are a significant factor in encouraging terrorism against Israelis and Jews.

This year Arabs Built 550 Illegal Structures in ‘Area C’ Alone

 

Report presented to Knesset committee showed that in 2014, Arab illegal construction is 16 times that of illegal Jewish construction.

The Subcommittee for Judea and Samaria of the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee hosted on Sunday the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), Major General Yoav Mordechai, for a discussion of illegal construction in Judea and Samaria.

According to information presented to the committee, about 550 illegal structures were built by Arabs in Areas C in the course of 2014, as opposed to 150 illegal structures built by Jews.

Knesset Aide Was Overheard Saying: ‘We’ll slaughter 50 Jews at next soccer game’

 

The aide to Arab MK Masud Ganaim had his entry permit to the Knesset temporarily revoked by its security chief, after guard overhears remarks & reports them.
• MK Ganaim said, “I strongly condemn these comments, but [my aide] claims he said it in jest.”

Israel’s Knesset to vote on closing ‘Israel Hayom’ on Wednesday

The Knesset will vote on a bill to ban Israel Hayom Wednesday, after the Ministerial Committee for Legislation did not decide on a government position on the measure.

The ministers voted on Sunday to give cabinet members freedom to vote according to their conscience on the bill, which means Wednesday’s preliminary vote in the Knesset could easily go either way.

The entire committee voted to be able to vote freely, except for Construction and Housing Minister Uri Ariel (Bayit Yehudi), who thought they should reject the coalition-shaking legislation. Continue Reading »
