US voices opposition to Israel destroying illegal EU construction of Palestinian homes

The United States is “concerned” about Israel’s demolition of Arab buildings in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, a State Department spokeswoman said on Friday, adding that it raised questions about Israel’s commitment to a two-state political solution to the Palestinian conflict.

Secret negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority have taken place in the last few weeks addressing the return of full Palestinian security control over cities in Area A of the West Bank, Haaretz reports.

According to Al Jazeera, dozens of Israelis from West Bank towns are renting  rooms and vacation homes to tourists, provoking the ire of pro-Palestinians, who were unable to get a reaction from the California-based company.

Airbnb, the popular online accommodation, rent, and lodging service is under fire from Israeli peaceniks and Palestinian officials for listing residences in Jewish towns and settlements beyond the 1967 Green Line without noting the disputed political status of these areas.

Ariel University receives over $100,000 compensation from Spanish gov’t for capitulating to BDS pressure in 2009 by excluding the West Bank university from a ‘green-housing’ competition.

The Spanish government recently paid 430,000 shekels (100,000 dollars) in compensation to an Israeli university in the West Bank for an incident in which 15 architecture students were barred from an international competition sponsored by the Spanish Housing Ministry because they came “from the occupied territories”.

Ariel University had been involved in a complicated legal struggle after a team it sent to Spain in 2009 advanced to become one of 21 finalists in a competition for designing an environmentally-friendly home, Israeli news website Ynet reported. Continue Reading »

Foreign Policy reports: 40% of West Bank Arab women have illegal abortions

A new report has found that about 40 percent of Arab women in Judea and Samaria have had abortions, even though the procedure is illegal.

Foreign Policy reports that, in order to avoid going to a doctor for the abortion, many women try improvised methods such as inserting sharp objects into their bodies or jumping off of buildings.

Many of the women who seek abortions are married but say that they are afraid of their husbands, giving them even less incentive to search for help.

Saudi Report: Hezbollah paying West Bank youth to terrorize Israeli Jews

Beijing refuses to allow Chinese nationals to work in West Bank

China’s refusal is delaying a deal on allowing thousands of Chinese construction workers in Israel because Jerusalem won’t promise to exclude them from the settlements.

VIDEO: Palestinian PM Screams ‘Foul’ After Car Stopped by Israel Police for Speeding

Ma’an News Agency reports Palestinian PM Rami Hamdallah’s convoyed was stopped again while traveling to Ramallah, this time according to Israel Police, the convoy was speeding.

 

Israel Police on Sunday stopped the convoy of the Palestinian prime minister in the West Bank, Ma’an news agency reported.

The convoy of Rami Hamdallah was traveling between Tulkarem and Ramallah, when it was stopped for about half an hour by police, according to the report.

Police said the convoy was held up because it was speeding near the settlement of Eli, but an official from Hamdallah’s office denied that to Ma’an.

Palestinian brewery cancels its 2014 Oktoberfest

Taybeh Brewery, the only Palestinian microbrewery, has cancelled its 2014 October festival in the wake of Gazans still suffering after war with Hamas.

 

The Taybeh Brewery, located in the West Bank town of the same name, has cancelled its annual Oktoberfest this year following the summer war in Gaza, according to USA Today.

“The blood in Gaza still did not dry, so we felt we needed better times to celebrate,” said master brewer Nadim Khoury, who runs the family-owned business.

Abbas’s family desert the West Bank for Jordan

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ wife & grandchildren were among the family members who secretly traveled to Jordan recently.

Members of the family of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas have secretly left Ramallah for Jordan, according to the online newspaper Rai Al-Youm.

“For the first time and secretly, all the members of President Abbas’s family have left to their residence in Amman,” the report said.

It said that Abbas’s wife and grandchildren were among the family members who left Ramallah recently.

The newspaper said that Mohamed Shehadeh, who is in charge of Abbas’s security detail, has decided to beef up security around the PA president’s office and residence in Ramallah. Continue Reading »
