Olympic committee suspends Tunisia after barring Israel’s flag

The Chief of the Israeli baseball association was forbidden from displaying Israel’s flag at the World Baseball Softball Confederation congress in Tunisia.

 

LAUSANNE, Switzerland — The International Olympic Committee has issued a warning to the international baseball and softball federation after an Israeli delegate was barred from displaying his national flag at a recent meeting in Tunisia.

Swedish man severely beaten with iron pipes for displaying Israeli flag by window

After thorough investigation, local Police suspect that the attack against the 38-year-old, in the Swedish city of Malmö, was a hate crime, reported The Local, Sweden’s English language website.

A man was severely assaulted in the Swedish city of Malmö on Sunday night after hanging an Israeli flag out of his window, according to local media reports.

Police suspect that the attack against the 38-year-old was a hate crime, The Local website reported. “Our initial evaluation is that this is a hate crime,” policewoman Marie Keismar said.

An Israeli-owned store in England that sold replacement parts for SodaStream closed after two years of weekly boycott protests.

The EcoStream shop in the coastal town of Brighton shut down last week, the Jewish Chronicle reported.

The store sold the recyclable bottles for the SodaStream machines made in the factory in the West Bank settlement of Maale Adumim.

Since September 2012, pro-Palestinian activists from the Palestine Solidarity Campaign have demonstrated in front of the store every Saturday as part of the global boycott, divestment and sanctions movement.

An Iranian cleric has accused Jews of being skilled sorcerers and said that Israel uses their power against Iran.

The Tehran University professor, who was recently interviewed on Iran’s state broadcaster, said that Jews use sorcery for espionage. Valiollah Naghipourfar talked about jinns, or genies, according to The Daily Beast.

“Can jinns be put to use in intelligence gathering?” the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting presenter asks the professor in the video, which was uploaded to YouTube on July 2.

Czech Federation of Jewish Communities officials objected to the honor, claiming Gibson’s 2004 movie “The Passion of the Christ” portrayed Jews as “evil and blood-thirsty,” Bloomberg reported.

In 2006, Oscar winner Gibson was forced to apologize for anti-Semitic comments he made to a police officer who arrested him for drink driving in Malibu, California, The movie star and director accepted his remarks were “vitriolic and harmful.”

In an article posted in The Nation on Wednesday, Chomsky targets the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement. He says that while there is international support exists for two of the movement’s main goals – ending the occupation of territories captured in the 1967 war and granting equal rights to Arab citizens of Israel, there is no significant support for its third objective – allowing Palestinian refugees to return to their homes in Israel.

Portugal joined 6 European states advising against doing business beyond ’67 borders

Portugal joins after France, Spain & Italy’s similar warning last week, with Germany, Britain & the Netherlands doing so earlier.

Portugal joined six other European countries on Wednesday in warning its citizens against doing business beyond the Green Line, with another 10 European countries expected to issue similar recommendations by the end of the week.

The advisory, which appeared on Portugal’s Foreign Ministry website, employed similar language used by Spain and Italy last week in warning their nationals against doing business and investing in the West bank, east Jerusalem and the Golan Heights.

Anti-Semitic graffiti has been scrawled on the Holocaust memorial in Athens, including threats against the Jewish community.

Police have opened an investigation into Friday’s vandalism, according to Victor Eliezer, the secretary general of the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece.

The graffiti included a purported quote from the Talmud saying that Jews who convert should be put to death, and threats that the synagogue in Athens would be destroyed.

“Regretfully, 70 years after the end of World War II, which left millions of victims of bigotry, racism, Nazism and anti-Semitism behind, there are people beyond redemption aiming at terrorizing us by molesting the memory of our brothers, victims of the Holocaust,” said a statement from the Jewish community, issued Monday.

Israel has maintained discreet military, intelligence and business ties with the Kurds since the 1960s, seeing in the minority ethnic group a buffer against shared Arab adversaries.

The Hezbollah International Financing Prevention Act of 2014, introduced by U.S. Reps. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) and Brad Schneider (D-Ill.), includes a provision to sanction foreign financial institutions that knowingly facilitate the activities of the Lebanese militia and party.
