UK displeased with Israel’s ‘soft’ condemnation of alleged Russian poison attack

The British Embassy: “We expect strong statements of support from all our close partners, Israel included.”

Britain expects its friends, including Israel, to issue strong statements of support following the poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury, the British Embassy made clear on Tuesday.

“We expect strong statements of support from all our close partners, Israel included,” the embassy said in a statement, following a Kan Bet radio report that London was miffed at what it saw as Jerusalem’s weak condemnation of the incident.

On Thursday the Foreign Ministry issued a statement that did not explicitly mention Russia’s involvement in the attack, saying that it “views with gravity” the event that took place in Great Britain and “condemns it vigorously. Continue Reading »

Israel approves humanitarian relief measures for Hamas dominated Gaza

Despite official Israeli position that there’s no humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the IDF agrees to move forward on a series of measures for the Gaza populace, including additional entry permits for traders and more lenient terms for the fishermen.

Israel has decided on a series of humanitarian measures to improve living conditions in Gaza, despite recently building tensions on the Gaza border in the wake of explosive charge detonations, tunnel destructions and Hamas promising to hold mass protests near the fence in the coming months.

The IDF has recently decided on the following steps to improve humanitarian conditions in the isolated enclave: traders from the strip will be allowed to enter Israel to participate in business dealings, the amount of fruit and vegetables allowed to be exported from Gaza was increased, entrance permits to younger Palestinians were granted and increased truck traffic was allowed to enter Gaza through the Kerem Shalom crossing. A Spanish judge granted an anti-Israel group’s motion to initiate a trial for alleged incitement to hatred and intimidation against the leader of a group that fights boycotts of the Jewish state.

With the US announcing cuts in aid money to the Palestinians, one might think the Palestinian Authority would try to cut expenses, but an invoice from a hotel stay by top Palestinian officials this month indicates the exact opposite.
