French court closes investigation into Arafat’s death

French investigating magistrates have decided to drop an inquiry into the death in France of former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, whose widow alleged he was poisoned, the prosecutors office said on Wednesday.

A lawyer for his widow Suha Arafat, who has argued that his death in 2004 was a political assassination, told Reuters that they would challenge the decision in an appeals court.

Netanyahu: Jerusalem to reevaluate open-fire orders on hostiles throwing rocks & fire-bombs

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a special high-level security meeting on Wednesday where it was decided to increase security forces in Jerusalem and on Road 443 from the capital to Mod’in, and weigh new open-fire orders on those throwing rocks and fire-bombs.

The meeting, which included Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon, Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, Transportation and Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz, General Security Services (Shin Bet) head Yoram Cohen, and other security officials was called in light of a recent spike in terror incidents in the capital and on 443, which is one of the major roads to and from the capital. For the second time on Tuesday, two rockets that were fired by Gaza terrorists fall short again, exploding on the Gaza side of the border with one of them hitting a home causing casualties, reports PA media.

IDF: Hamas syphoning off majority of construction materials meant for Gaza’s rehabilitation

 

IDF: Israel has facilitated the entry of 1,700,000 tons of construction material into Gaza (since end of 2014 conflict) that Hamas is seizing for its construction of attack tunnels.

Still no reports from Hamas of damage or deaths as failed rocket fire towards Israel Tuesday morning falls short, landing in the terrorist enclave, although ‘Color Red’ sirens were activated in Israel’s Hof Ashkelon region.

Sirens were heard on Tuesday morning, around 5:20 a.m. local time, in the Hof Ashkelon area of southern Israel.

The IDF said that the sirens were a result of a failed attempt to fire rockets from Gaza. Security forces were combing the area nonetheless to determine whether any rockets were fired, it said.

New immigrant children to enter Israel’s school system in record numbers

 

According to the Immigrant Absorption Ministry, of all the immigrants who moved to Israel over the past decade, 34,400 children will be attending an Israeli school this coming year.

The school year is set to begin in Israel on Tuesday, with more than 2 million children and teens poised to enter or return to the school system. Of them, a record number of 2,900 students will be attending an Israeli school for the first time, having immigrated to Israel this summer. Some 360 new immigrants will be starting school as Israeli first graders.
