Unstable Ultra-Orthodox man, who was released from prison just 3 weeks ago for a similar attack at one of Jerusalem’s first pride parades in 2005, was apprehended at scene, knife in hand.

An assailant stabbed four people taking part in a Gay Pride march in central Jerusalem Thursday, Israeli police and health services said.

The attack, which occurred on Keren Hayesod street in central Jerusalem, was carried out by an ultra-Orthodox Jewish man named as Yishai Schlisel by police.

Flyers made their appearance in the North Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Hanina on Thursday last week, signed by the “ISIS in Palestine” organization, with threats against Arab Christians of the area. Christians are threatened with slaughter if they do not evacuate the area by Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan. An Israel Border Police officer is in critical condition after being stabbed Sunday at Damascus Gate, outside the Old City in Jerusalem, Israel Police reported Sunday.

The terrorist, an 18-year-old resident of the West Bank, was shot at the scene and is in critical condition.

Paramedics provided treatment at the scene and evacuated the injured officer, who is approximately 20 years old, to Shaare Zedek Medical Center. Continue Reading »

The terrorist, an Arab man aged 25, from the Hevron area, had reached the Cotton Gate that leads to the Temple Mount, when officers the Temple Mount police spotted him and decided that he seemed suspicious.

Police used stun grenades to disperse hundreds of Palestinians on Wednesday who were protesting against an Israeli light festival at the Old City of Jerusalem.

Police said four men were arrested. A few were pushed to the ground during the scuffles but no serious injuries were reported.

2 millennia old, 13-mile subterranean aqueduct unearthed in Jerusalem

Road workers in Umm Tuba, a neighborhood in Israel’s capital, discovered section of subterranean aqueduct built by Hasmonean kings to bring water to Jerusalem for 2 millennia, up until a century ago.

A section of a subterranean aqueduct that brought supplied water to the city of Jerusalem 2,000 years ago was recently unearthed in the neighborhood of Umm Tuba during preparations to lay a new sewer pipe.

Jerusalem Plans a Face-Lift For 2017, 50 Year Jubilee For Capital’s Unification

Billions to be spent on projects, including massive visitors center at Western Wall, a fertility center, upgrading transportation infrastructure and more.

The government announced major construction projects in Jerusalem on Tuesday during a special cabinet session marking the 48th anniversary of the city’s reunification.

Authority has submitted an official request to the International Criminal Court to set a date to discuss the possibility of two war-crimes lawsuits against Israel, PA Foreign Minister Riad Malki said on Monday.

Minister Regev’s 1st directive: Move Culture & Sport Ministry to Jerusalem

Miri Regev’s first decision as minister of culture and sport is to move the ministry’s offices from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Ynet has learned.

Regev has already approached Finance Ministry officials with the request to find the Culture and Sport Ministry a new home in the capital.

As part of the move, the ceremony to replace ministers on Sunday will not take place at the Tel Aviv office, but rather in the ministry’s existing branch in Sheikh Jarrah in Jerusalem, where the ministry’s operations have been far and few so far. Continue Reading »

Jerusalem to become film & TV hub to attract international filmmakers

Noting major Hollywood projects by  Richard Gere & Natalie Portman in Jerusalem, Mayor Barkat says time has come to incorporate the Jewish capital into a global production destination.

 

On the heels of several high-profile Hollywood productions filmed, or filming, in the capital, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat announced on Tuesday his intention to build a major film and television complex in the city to attract more international filmmakers.
