“Look around you. This is an historic moment in the UN!”

Those were the words of Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon on Tuesday as he looked out over a packed General Assembly Hall at the start of an event opposing the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

More than 2,000 attended the session, making it one of the rare occasions, if not the only to date, in which the UN General Assembly Hall could be described as a place of pro-Israel sentiment. Continue Reading »

Israeli 10th grader unearths 3,330 yr-old Egyptian amulet at Galilee dig

 

Dr. Daphna Ben-Tor, curator of Egyptian archaeology at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, who identified the scarab amulet, added that “this is an Egyptian scarab from the times of the Ramses, the 19th Dynasty, the golden days of the pharaohs of Egypt.”

Tzipori (Sepphoris) in the Galilee has revealed another exciting find: On Tuesday, a group of young students participating in an archaeological excavation run by the Israel Antiquities Authority at the ancient site discovered an Egyptian amulet that is over 3,000 years old.

New NGO ‘transparency bill’ will identify sources to 27 foreign-gov’t-funded groups

 

The new bill requires any NGO receiving more than half its funding from a foreign political entity, to identify itself as such in any publications, & any meetings with public officials.

Legislation requiring greater transparency for organizations getting most of their budgets from foreign governments will affect 27 NGOs, Nonprofits Registrar representative Yafit Shemer told the Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee Wednesday.

Israel’s Shabak, also known as the Shin Bet, is recruiting people to become elite bodyguards for the Israeli leadership.

They are the VIP Protection Unit of the Shin Bet, and they’re looking for the next generation to protect Israel’s leaders.

Jerusalem halts Waqf’s illegal construction of dozens of toilets next to Temple Mount

 

Israeli archaeologist were pleased that Jerusalem’s Municipality issued the Jordanian Waqf, ‘stop-work’ papers on the site, saying, illegal building has been going on for years.

A historic synagogue in northwest Turkey was host to a Jewish wedding, its first in 41 years, on Sunday, the Hurriyet Daily News reported.

The recently renovated synagogue in Edirne was built in 1492 for Jews seeking refuge in the Ottoman Empire and is the third-largest in the world.

IDF cancel parents’ prerogative to retrieve single son soldiers from battlefield

 

New IDF regulations prevent parents from retrieving single son soldiers from battle, and now direct donations to soldiers from civilian organizations or individuals, which was once common, in now forbidden under the new IDF regulations.

A new decree issued by the IDF stipulates that parents with one son who consent to him serving in a combat capacity will not be able to annul the agreement. Prior to this decision, parents who had a change of heart could force the army to send out a retrieval unit to extract their son from the battlefield.

34 years later, Russia returns captured IDF tank to Israel

 

With no sign of the three Israeli soldiers who manned the tank during the First Lebanon War at the Battle of Sultan Yacoub, Russia agrees to return the tank to Israel to be used as a memorial.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his appreciation on Sunday for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s signing of a presidential decree ordering the return of an IDF tank that was captured in 1982 during the First Lebanon War.

The captured Israeli tank currently on display at the Moscow Military Museum will return to Israel as the only reminder/memorial of the missing three IDF soldiers (inserted on photo) from the Battle of Sultan Yacoub.
