Israel requests UN peacekeepers return to posts in Syria

Now that President Bashar Assad regained control of the Syrian Golan Heights, Jerusalem asks U.N. to increase size of UNDOF force from 1,000 to 1200-1300 peacekeepers.
• Remember: UNDOF retreated from Syria in 2014 after peacekeepers were kidnapped by an al Qaida force.

Israel has asked the United Nations to reinstate its Disengagement Observer Force on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights border, outgoing Northern Command Chief of Staff Brig. Gen. Asher Ben-Lulu has confirmed to Israel Hayom.

UNDOF peacekeepers were first deployed on both sides of the Golan Heights border in 1974 as part of the Separation of Forces Agreement between Israel and Syria after the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Continue Reading »

Russia joins UN patrols along Syria-Israel frontier

With the return of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force to the frontier between Syria and Israel, Russia announces its military police will assist them until all UN patrols along the border are fully restored.

The Russian military said Tuesday that its forces in Syria will help UN peacekeepers fully restore patrols along the volatile frontier between Syria and the Israeli Golan Heights.

The Russian deployment in the area has highlighted Moscow’s growing clout in the region, marking a successful attempt to balance the sharply conflicting interests of Israel and Iran.

Israeli shoe manufacturer sends 2,000 sandals to Syrian refugees

The donation of 2,000 pairs of sandals to Syrian children by Teva Naot, estimated at $70,000, was delivered by the NGO Israel Flying Aid.

Israel mum to Syrian claims IAF jets destroyed 3 Iranian targets in Syria

Syrian state media said late Thursday that Syrian air defenses were triggered by Israeli fighter jets that had allegedly bombed three Iranian positions in Syria.

The Syrian defense systems “engaged and destroyed ‎hostile targets” near the capital of Damascus, the report said.

As Assad retakes Golan Heights, IDF closes Field Clinic for internal refugees

IDF closes it’s Golan Heights medical field clinic, the Mazor Ladach, that had provided treatment to some 6,800 displaced and deprived Syrians that had no access to medical help or medicines in their war-torn country.

A field clinic built by the IDF and providing care to injured Syrians has been closed, the IDF’s Spokesperson’s Unit announced on Friday.

The Mazor Ladach (whose name translates into Bandaging Those In Need) was a field clinic opened in August 2017 and located in an unused military post in the southern Golan Heights on the Syrian border.

IDF fighter-jets killed 7 armed Islamic State terrorists in the Syrian part of the southern Golan Heights on Wednesday night, and after search of the area this morning, explosive belts and an AK-47 assault weapon were recovered.

53 yrs after being hung as spy, Eli Cohen’s remains are to return to Israel

In a Kuwaiti newspaper report on Syria, the remains of Israeli spy Eli Cohen will be returned to his family for burial in Israel in exchange for military flexibility with Assad’s regime on Israel’s northern border.

The Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida, considered one of the most reliable in the Arab world, reported Thursday that Israel is very close to achieving a return of the remains of legendary Israeli spy Eli Cohen to Israel.

Foreign Report: Israeli jets explode Iranian, Hezbollah weapons depots in Syria

According to a Syrian rebel report, Israeli jets entered the Deraa district, which recently displaced tens of thousands of civilians due to the regime’s bombardments, and fired rockets at ammunition warehouses belonging to pro-Assad militias, resulting in massive explosions heard throughout the district.

Syrian civilians fleeing a fresh military offensive by their own government and its Russian allies have begun massing on the border of Israel’s Golan Heights.

They say that being as close as possible to Israeli forces is the safest place to be, presumably because Syrian dictator Bashar Assad and Russia are wary of drawing Israel further into the country’s bloody civil war.

Syrian NGO: Iran, Hezbollah troops preparing to withdraw from southern Syria

Just a day after Russian FM Sergei Lavrov said that Iranian and allied forces should withdraw from the Southern Syria “soon,” the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported [Thursday] that Iran & Hezbollah are preparing to withdraw their troops from Syrian areas close to the Israeli border.
