Turkey is spending tens of millions of dollars to gain a foothold inside Israel’s capital city and to stir up tensions between Arab residents and Israelis, a new investigative report claims.

According to the report, set to be published in full by journalist Nadav Shragi this coming Friday in Yisrael Hashavua, since 2004 some $63 million from Turkish NGOs and the Turkish government have gone to organizations in eastern Jerusalem dedicated to “defending and strengthening the Muslim heritage and character of Jerusalem. The Jordanian government yesterday (Wednesday) strongly condemned the presence of Jews in the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and Jewish activities there. It referred to Jerusalem Day events, during which 15 Jews who had bowed in prayer down were detained, while others sang Hatikvah.

Jewish American immigrant denied citizenship after Temple Mount arrest

 

An American haredi’s citizenship request was denied based on an arrest for ‘interfering with a police officer’ and ‘disturbing the peace’ during a visit on the Temple Mount.

A resident of Jerusalem who applied for citizenship under the Law of Return, was stunned to find his citizenship application opposed by the Interior Ministry because he was previously arrested on the Temple Mount, an arrest for which he is currently suing the police, the Honenu legal organization reported.

A., a haredi Torah scholar from the US who has worked and and studied in Jerusalem for the past few years,and who married an Israeli woman and has Israeli children, was arrested two years ago when he ascended the Temple Mount on suspicion of interfering with a police officer and disturbing the peace on the Temple Mount. Palestinians hurl slurs at UN Chief for acknowledging Jewish ties to Temple Mount

 

Speaking to Israel Radio on Friday, the new U.N. leader, Antonio Guterres acknowledged that “the Temple the Romans destroyed in Jerusalem was a Jewish temple,” and went on to say that he has no intention of forcing a peace process on Israel and the Palestinians.

“[Gueterres] ignored UNESCO’s decision that considered the Al-Aksa Mosque of pure Islamic heritage,” Adnan al-Husseini, Palestinian Authority Jerusalem Affairs minister told Xinhua, a Chinese news outlet, clarifying that the UN secretary-general “violated all legal, diplomatic and humanitarian customs and overstepped his role as secretary general…and must issue an apology to the Palestinian people.”

Palestinians threaten UNESCO not to oppose upcoming Jerusalem vote

The Palestinian Authority and the Jordanians have warned the 21-member states of UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee not to oppose or abstain from a Jerusalem resolution on Wednesday in Paris.

The resolution, which refers to the Temple Mount solely by its Muslim name of Al-Haram Al Sharif, is expected to be approved by the committee at its 40th session.

But in light of public statements on such resolutions made last week by Italy, Mexico and Brazil, the Palestinians want the resolution to pass by consensus, with the full support of all 21 member states of the World Heritage Committee (WHC). Continue Reading »

2nd Temple floor tiles reconstructed from debris discarded by Palestinians

 

Israeli Archaeologists reconstructed decorative tiles from Second Temple period using the discarded multi-colored tiles with geometric designs that were a gift from Roman Caesar Augustus to King Herod, known to have adorned the Temple compound and surrounding buildings.

Striking in their modernity: Researchers have completed the first-ever reconstruction of archaeological elements from the Second Temple — a number of floor tiles that are believed to have adorned the porticos that surrounded the Temple compound, and possibly other important structures in the area, as well.
